Rainbow Park

2019 Greenspace Report

The greenspace group at Rainbow Park has demonstrated amazing stewardship and restoration over the past several years as the park has undergone a significant transformation. The space is now an open, bright, and sunny area whereas several years ago it was heavily shaded by large trees. Now that these trees are gone, the group has made an effort to adjust the ecological makeup of the plants to suit the sun filled environment. This summer their efforts were highlighted when the park was in full bloom and color from all of the hostas, day lilies, and daisies they’ve planted. They continued adding flowering plants to the space this year, made great progress in cleaning up the paths, and weeded and mulched all of the park. The New Haven Independent wrote a wonderful article about this greenspace that explains its history and value to many community members. To end the year, the group had a new sign painted by Fellowship Place to be mounted at the entrance and replace the one that fell in a storm.
