2025 Greenspace Report
It’s hard to imagine a better example for the GreenSpace program than the Orchard Street Blockwatch. This group has been steadily caring for their greenspace for decades and it shows in the beautiful trees and garden beds, in the cleanliness indicative of decades of stewardship, and most importantly in the community and friendships among the group. Katie and Paul Hawkins and sisters Eva and Helen Green are the core group caring for the space along with Lenora Turner, more commonly referred to as “Lil Mama”, when her health allows. Because the space is so well established, the main goal this summer was maintenance and to “keep it looking nice” so we focused on weeding, pruning the trees, repainting the outdoor furniture and the grill, as well as planting to fill gaps and replace dying plants.
