Quinnipiac River Park

2026 Greenspace Report

Quinnipiac River Park is a peaceful and welcoming space, overlooking the Quinnipiac River and located right at the edge of Fair Haven. The Friends of Quinnipiac River Park are a dedicated, passionate, and visionary group of volunteers who seek to continue improving and beautifying the park for the community to enjoy. This summer, the group took on their biggest project yet, with the goal of planting 250 perennials to commemorate America’s 250th and to leave a lasting impact that park-goers can enjoy for generations. The group not only met their goal, but far exceeded it. In just 10 weeks, the group has planted over 280 perennials, added a brand new native pollinator garden, and doubled the size of their original pollinator garden. Additionally the group has continued to steward their other Greenspace projects, maintaining Bird Paradise and other perennial tree rings around the park. Their strong sense of community and hard work resulted in amazing additions to the park that will be enjoyed by the Fair Haven community, human and nonhuman alike, for years to come.

• 285 perennials planted (27 yarrow, 8 New York aster, 5 white wood aster, 9 blue wood aster, 10 snowhill sage, 11 amsonia, 7 Joe pye weed, 5 truffle cardinal flower, 24 cardinal flower, 2 white cardinal flower, 10 bee balm, 4 purple bee balm, 5 columbine, 5 husker red penstemon, 3 royal candles Veronica, 40 common milkweed, 13 swamp milkweed, 12 great blue lobelia, 2 Gaillardia/Indian Blanket Flower, 1 dwarf butterfly bush, 1 lavender, 12 liatris, 8 butterfly weed, 6 boneset, 20 blue-eyed grass, 4 seaside goldenrod, 3 golden alexander, 4 NY ironweed, 3 false sunflower, 6 black eyed Susan, 3 sweet william, 2 coneflower, 2 coreopsis, 3 tickseed, 1 chickory, 2 anise/cilantro/dill, and 1 musk mallow)
