Roan is a rising sophomore in Yale College majoring in Environmental Studies. Immediately after moving to New Haven she fell in love with the city's many parks and is excited to be working with the community members who beautify and steward these spaces! In addition to community-based environmental initiatives, Roan is interested in environmental policy and management, and has experience doing policy research, exploring the ecology of parks where she is from (Pittsburgh!), working as an environmental educator, and doing trail maintenance on the Appalachian Trail. She loves to learn and is always looking for a new subject to dive into or a place to explore. In her free time, she enjoys camping, writing, art, and taking long walks around New Haven with no specific destination in mind.

From Greenspace Leader David Shimchick: We had another extraordinary work day on Saturday. This power crew was comprised of FERP regulars, high school students earning their community service hours, and geocachers who responded to the event posted by FERP's Kimberley Gibson. We continued work removing the tangled mass of invasives along Betty's Way in the area directly behind the back stop including a section on the upside of the trail where a combination of winged euonymous and porcelain vine was strangling a young oak. |

We got a ton of work done with this huge group of volunteers. We raked leaves and planted hundreds of tulip and daffodil bulbs that we’ll all get to appreciate next spring. A couple of families with young kids came and worked alongside volunteers from Yale University, Southern University, and Career High. |
